Injecting plastic
« on: 06/02/20 11:54 UTC »
Just started pouring my own Plastic, some come out good , using the GY senko mold, seems that the last little portion of plastic sets up too fast in the injector and a few cavities get shorted on plastic,
heating to 350 degrees as required.
Any tips on what causes this.
Thanks,

Welcome to the Do-It forums.

A couple thoughts here. Be sure you have sufficient plastic in the injector before injecting the mold. If you're filling the injector by pouring plastic in the barrel, then attaching the nozzle, give the injector rod a nudge in the filling position after attaching the nozzle until the plastic is at the open end of the nozzle. This eliminates air that will migrate to the top of the injector barrel when injecting and can short fill the cavities.

Secondly on that mold, try using plastic slightly cooler than the 350. When starting with new plastic of course you need the 350 degrees for full conversion of the plastic but let the cup sit until its about 330 degrees or even down to 310 degrees before injecting. This can help in eliminating dented baits once the mold warms up.

Agree with Tom 100%

The only thing I would add is to inject slow and steady (until the mold if full) and then hold pressure for a count of 10 or so until the plastic sets. Top off if necessary (unlikely).

Sounds like you’re injecting really slow.
