For existing eyes , shop around and find some liquid masking. Paint stores may have it or even a Menards or Home Depot in the paint department. It applies like fingernail polish. Spray the bait as you like and then rub the masking off prior to applying the clear coat.

I found this...I think this will work   Royal Talens Liquid Masking Film 052 Bottle 75 ml

I believe that's the same as what I have right now. It's buried in a closet, so checking is not happening right away. The stuff is very handy.
