Any fishing reports on the 1.75" Croaker??
« on: 06/21/12 10:36 UTC »
The #1 mold on my to buy list is the 1.75" croaker. It really seems like it would be a smallmouth, largemouth, crappie etc. killer

Any fishing stories (positive or negative) on the bait????

I don't have any on the 1.75 but I fish the 4 in and I get hit just about every outing if I throw it in the right spot and right time of day.  I usually focus on weed edges in shallow water.  I get bass as small as 12 inches hitting the 4 and many much larger.  I have used the 3 inch on bass as small as 8 inches.  The kids love throwing the 3 inch croaker in the fall when the 6-10 inch bass move shallow.  They kill it on top and the kids love the action.  It is almost a fish a cast in the fall for those small bass.

I ordered a sample bag...the largemouth have really been smacking the 3" frog...I'm hoping the small one will be popular with the smallmouth!

There is two threads below this one talking about them.

Have not fished them myself but some of the people I gave some too are asking for more.

In addition to the thread, Stuart added a review to the site under the Pro Series: http://www.caneycreekmolds.com/CC-Croaker--175--20-Cavity_p_348.html.

The other feedback I've received was someone who got the sample, was impressed enough with field trials that they wanted to order 5,000 to resell.  I think they are going to get the molds and make them, we'll see...

This is one of the sizes I got in my bag of sample frogs.  I haven't had time to fish beyond the initial trial to see which size/style mold I wanted, but I'm impressed with the 1.75 enough that it's on the future mold purchase list.  Crappies and bluegills were quite interested, but I was fishing from a public access dock with lots of pressure at the time & no takers.  I'm hitting northern WI in August, it will get a good trial run then.  Great action, does topwater very well, could make a great floating bait for evening when the panfish are surface feeding.

Jason, what size hook are you using on these?

Sorry it took me a minute to reply. The pan fish in Georgia really like the 1.75” croaker. To date I have caught Red breast, Bluegill, Shell cracker and, Large mouth bass on them. I use a #1 hook from bass pro no weight. The nice thing about the small mold is I can get 21-24 baits from 2oz of plastic. Here is a Shell cracker from this weekend and a pic of the hook in the bait.

well i haven't had the chance to give them a run due to a demanding scheduled but i shot some for the boys and guess what SUCCESS they headed up the far reaches of the Shoalhaven River in search of some winter bass and got smashed.
basic green with red fleck and a color we have named the Doodie Man.
More have been demanded and will be made when i get a chance.
Looking forward to giving them a run in the salt estuaries chasing Silver Bream.
Highly recommend this mold well done the CCM team.

I'm using a XPS hook from Bass Pro Shop. The size 1 fits prefect but the style is very specific so I've included a link.

Dennis,
I assume the size 1 is the smallest size hook? In the pic are you rigging it weedless? Would it work as a topwater in a small river for smallmouth?
Thanks
