I saw a guy get a hole in one once...on the fly.  We were standing close to the green letting a guy play through.  He hit a high, lofty shot and the ball came down less than an inch from the cup.  The ball  took a little of the turf, went into the hole and stayed there.

I have an irrigation pond that has a few big large mouth in it.  They don't seem to bite artificial lures though.  You can catch a small bream with a fly and then hook it in the back, cast it out under a float and catch a large mouth in the 4-6lb range.

OK, it's been six months since we've used this thread during which we've added well over a hundred new members.  Even for us that have been around for a while, it's still fun to go back and read all nine pages.  I'd suggest you newer guys do the same.  You won't be disappointed.  So...what do you do?

I have done a LOT of different things in my time. The most unusual job was being a snow maker for Vail mountain in Colorado for a few years shortly after I got out of high school in 79. I've  done most jobs in the restaurant biz from dishwasher to cook. I've done concrete , drywall ,waterproofing basements, roofing and a little landscaping. I worked as a fabricator (cushion cutter on piece work) and loaded semis ( furniture on piece work ) in a furniture factory. I've done other things as well but the last 22 years I've been a roller operator on an asphalt crew. We have paved everything from small road patches to huge outlet malls. Pretty much anything you can think of that you can pave with blacktop I have done. I have rolled literally millions of tons of blacktop and Lord only knows how many miles I've put on rollers in my time, surely thousands.  God willing I will be able to retire (Become work optional) in 3-4 years and move on to something else. Teaching my grandson ( he just turned 7 months old) how to make baits and fish is very high on my what to do next  list.  I also do volunteer work for my church and county/township parks departments in my spare time. Of all the many things I have done I think volunteering is probably the most rewarding.

Well I guess its my turn, especially since I have been around here awhile. I am a commercial mortgage banker based in Houston, TX. We place loans on most commercial properties (ie office, industrial, apartments, retail, medical). The firm I work for is owned and operated by Dad, brother and myself. I started fishing young on the golf course ponds behind my house when I was young as my dad used to stock bass in a few of the ponds. Got pretty good with a fly rod for a youngster for awhile but now I only fish saltwater (have caught a couple reds on fly which is awesome).  There is nothing like bailing out of the boat and just wading a shoreline or reef and ripping the lips off of trout and reds. I guess you could call Matagorda, TX my second home.  I been on a hunting lease down their for the past 17 years and have a strong passion for duck, goose, quail, dove and pig hunting which all can be done there. I also keep my boat down there and patrol East Matagorda Bay when I get the chance. I haven't been able to enjoy is much the last year as in the past as my wife has been battling brain cancer and gone through a years worth of chemo. But we are extremely blessed and as of Nov 1 she is done with chemo and is currently cancer free.  This site and hobby were my escape from the stress and I think I have gotten pretty good at it (not as good as other obviously). It even allowed me to buy/sell/trade and exchange ideas a few to you guys on here. I would like to thank you guys and Do-It for all I have learned, and especially Ryan who made a donation to a cancer walk/run we did last year. Well that's my story.

P.S- Today we are celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary.

Really found this thread interesting and it made a great read.  I am a high school science teacher and head football coach who has always loved the outdoors. I became a bit of an insomniac due to football and making my living on on how kids under 18 perform on the field.  I really do love the challenge of trying to take these young individuals and teaching them how to become better men. Many of our players are raised in single parent homes or by their grandparents.  Well anyway I found a way to utilize my time and get away from the constant thought of gameplanning and began working with what I loved to do as a kid, fishing. I began making my own rods and spinner baits. I then decided to give plastics a try, and since then plastics has become my favorite way to occupy my brain. This has given me the chance to talk to several people within the forum.  I have had some very informative conversations with others about more than just baits and it has always been a pleasure. Cowards? I tell Ryan he has long ears all the time. Denny is the only negative Nellie in this bunch. At last winter's get-together all he did was harp about the weather. Clear skies, no precip. Yes, the wind blew a little but the garbage cans weren't quite horizontal as the went by. And -15 degrees is just cool, not freezing cold like you complained.

Thanks for the interesting reading. Spent time in the guards while still in high school, then went active after a couple of years. Left the Army after Desert Storm. I started making jigs and spinners shortly afterwards. For some reason walked away from fishing and lure making for 10 year. Then I awoke from my brain failure and I still have some of those molds!   I had considered myself a jack of all trades until I went back to school at 48. Now I say a master of two. Cabinet making and CNC programming and operation. I working on my airbrush skills but do I really get jealous seeing some of all of your work!!!!

I work for the NC Division of Marine Fisheries.  I conduct the recreational fishing survey for them.  Ita a pretty awesome job, kinda boring in the winter though!

I work in the emergency room as a nurse at UAB hospital.  Still in school as well as working, trying to do the CRNA route eventually.  Needless to say, time is a bit hard to come by most of the time but I really love my job so it works out.  Best part of working in the ER is you never know what you'll see day in and day out.  I really enjoy working in the trauma area of the department working on the car accidents, shootings, stabbings but not so much the burns mostly due to the smell    Other than work I enjoy playing paintball as some of you may have seen in the hobbies thread, making lures, bass fishing, watching football and soccer.  I'll be getting married next October so the fiance has kept me busy getting that planned and that's been both frustrating and exciting.  Lots of stuff happening in the next year or so and who knows where that will take me!

Is there any fresh water fishing opportunities on the Big Island?  Me and saltwater don't co-exist well.  I get out on a boat and Mt. Dennytubo's likely to erupt.
