Nice work 2XL I've been thinking about that thumper swim fry. Looks like it worked out real nice!

You guys are killing me... seeing your pictures and not being able to join in is almost as bad as seeing fish pictures when I can't go.

2XL - those little thumper fry baits are premium!!!
(If you have some tiny eyes, put them on and I'm betting the core will then look all the more like a lateral line, bringing the realism factor to another level... I only suggest this because I know the difference eyes can make on a laminate bait.)

What size rod on these?  Any troubles or words of advice?

Thanks e. It's still very much a one step forward, two steps back process for me but I'm getting there. I should have stuck with the red or other solid color but I wanted to work up a nice char green anyway so I just used that and killed two birds with one stone.

I used 1/16" brass rod to make the pins for the Thumper Fry. Pretty strait forward and I didn't have to shape them in any way save to round the ends off a little bit. The hardest part was getting the trimmed bodies back in the mold for the core shot. I say trouble only because there are 10 of them , they are small and I have fat fingers.  LOL IMO this is not a hard bait to make using your method.

2XL I'm assuming the 1/16 rod fits right into the tail section nicely so you don't have to be to picky on exact length on this one?

I know exactly what you are saying... one of my hunting buddies says I have bratwurst fingers (but I'm sure that's only because his seem like green beans in comparison) and I often have trouble with bumping hooks in production jig molds.

I cut the pins long enough that they stop at the end of the body cavity but you could run it further into the tail if you wanted to. I didn't for two reasons. One, I wanted to make sure the mold vented well enough to allow the whole body to fill with plastic on the initial shot. Two, is that it can be a pain pulling a long pin out of some of these baits due to them having thin walls so the less pin you have to pull out the better. I've learned that a little sanding of the pins with 400 grit ( using a finer grit might be better )sandpaper and a light coat of worm oil helps when pulling the pins out of each bait.

A few more Thump,Thumper baits. Both of these molds are fairly easy to E core.

Here is how I laid the pins in the Thumper Fry mold. The pins end at my finger tips but you could make them a little longer as the ones in the picture tend to slide back and forth a little if you're not careful.

WOW! You use one pin to cover two baits? Must allow enough room for plastic to get down the center core since they all came out!

Yes.You could go with single pins for each bait if you REALLY wanted to but that would be a total nightmare to set up. Using a single pin is easy peasy once you have it sized to fit the mold.

I also use a single pin for the 3 inch skinny carrot mold.

Just be sure your pin allows enough air out to vent the mold. Just remember that it doesn't matter if the whole tail forms on your initial shot of plastic because you are most likely going to trim the tail section off the baits for your core shot anyway. So as long as your pins allow for a fully formed body then you're good to go.

Thanks Lines but there are a few bubbles in those baits.
